Workshop 1- Faces

In this workshop we all took picture of ourselves on each others laptops, helping all of us collect information. The reason why we are collecting images is because we are going to create a short animation on photoshop. I put all the images taken on one page, I made them all roughly the same size and line them up to fill the page.
I had to place each image on top of each other, increase the size and place the image in the middle. Then I have to crop it down so i can only see the face. (no white space)

After I made sure the images where on top of one another, I had to click on windows and then click on the animation button. When that was done a small box will appear on the bottom of the screen, I just have to increase the amount of cells depending on how much images there are. (if there is 10 images you make 10 cells(there is a button on the box to increase cells)
To make sure we can only see one image at a time you have to click on the eye icon and the image will disappear. On the first cell you show one image, on the second cell you show two images and so on.
After you have increased the number of cells, you then simply press play on the small box and if your happy with it. You click file export render video then when the video comes up you just press play.
This the finished animation
To create a animation using both illustrator and photoshop you need to take the images from photoshop and pasta it on to illustrator, then you start marking the areas you think is necessary. This is simple by placing dots on the top of the head to the bottom of the chin, etc. We are doing this because we want to show all the possibilities of collecting information, showing software use and looking at another form of presenting.
Once you have done that to all of the faces you delete the images and selected and copy the dots.
After deleting the images you then select the dots and move it to photoshop where we begin the animation process.
I inputted the dots on to photoshop and placed each image on top of each other. Now all that is left to do is go through the process of animation so click on windows, then animation and then final decide on the timing and then export it to render video and what's left to do is press play.
The above video is the final piece of the illustration animation, the design is very basic.

Workshop 2- Collecting information

This just a preview of some of the information that i collected.
(Before we started this project we had to firstly do a little excise with everyone. The excise was to put on the table the most valuable thing that we had with us, we discussed the similarities and differences and why we all felt it was valuable. we did that two more times, then we was asked to list ten different ways we could collect interesting information from our class. We firstly decided to doing favorite day so far. The other tasks were to complicated, didn't works at all or there was no visual outcome so it wouldn't work out:
  • Eyes picture
  • Palm of hand
  • Tell us one thing that is unusual about you
  • Country
  • Most valuable thing that they own (doesn't have to be the price)
  • Family, sister, brother, etc
  • Happiest day of their life so far
  • Favorite colour
  • The last thing they did last night
We basically went around with bits of different coloured car and asked everyone to choose a colour that represent the country, then we asked them to draw a simple image the represent the country and lastly at the back of the piece of paper we asked them to write down their name and their country. We thought this would be an interesting way of collecting 5 different type of information by doing one simple task:
  1. Country name
  2. Hand writing
  3. Colour felt represents country
  4. Image felt represents country
  5. Name

In this image I am binding the information that we collected it in a book form.
This is important because firstly it's easier for the brain to cope with, because it's simplified information.  overall I felt that this project was very successful I felt that I found out a variety of different information from one simple task, however I also learned something unexpected. This was the fact that some people drew something that was unusual and others drew something typical and very general. This goes same to the colour, nearly half the people would choose a colour that either represent the weather or flag the other half just chose a colour they remember of their country.
In this video you will see five bits of information, first is the colours everyone chose to represent the countries, the second is the image everyone drew to represent the countries the last three bits of information is the person's name, country and hand writing. After we collect information I thought it would be an interesting idea to make a short video of the information that we collected.

Workshop 3- Software

Go on dream weaver, press cancel then you go to file and open up a new document.
remove two sites and then change name (press continue and make a new folder inside your first folder call it media.
Then press control and make a new file name it index.html.
view table and layout mode.
layout object---layout cell--make a box then write inside of it (i wrote my first and second name)
(This will turn in to a button)
File---preview in Browser---Safari
Highlight the word to turn it in to a link, by pointing on the tool box to an icon that looks like a circle with four different lines.
Then the new file that you created name it page1.html
To recap you have one page that now as a link once you click on it t will not only change colour but it will also go to another page.
Then on page one you will create a hyperlink going back to the first page
(do the same process as before, highlight point then click)
Page properties---lnks allow you to change colours, etc
(advice any images you want to input you should do it all through photoshop then import it to dream weaver.

Workshop 4- Type

To begin the class we had to come up with words that we felt remind or related us of data, we listed ten words and the from those ten words we had to pick one, I picked access. Then I had to design a type face that spelled access out of lego, I decided that blocks where the way to go with lego because they had boundaries. I made two lower case letter and two upper case letters. I felt that my type face need improvements, but that would be continued when i start looking at paper base designs and computer base designs.
Comparing the different type of design method was interesting looking at the hand draw paper based type and the lego type was interesting how the type changes due to it being 3-D and how different it looks when it's in front of you. This is actually is a good method of working, because you can clearly see the mistake and what needs to be improved. Also we was given 3-D objects (lego) to create type face, if we was given paper based first the outcome would have been very different and not so controlled.
I thought it would be interesting to put the drawing base type face next to the lego type face. The aim of this experiment was to decide how we would design a type face by lego, because lego is shaped in a way that there are boundaries we would all come up with a design that was maybe not similar but has similar features. Then we continue on by designing the type face on paper just adjusting the sizes and style but still keeping the original idea.
I firstly started of by designing my own type face on font struct site, I was new to the site and was quite unsure how to use it correctly. I started designing every single letter on one page and found out later that this wouldn't work, because each page is meant for one letter.
So i deleted all the letters and started from the beginning. What i also found out while redesigning the letters on their own space was that each letter has to be draw on the baseline, this proved to be very useful.
All the type faces had to be a good size, so in my first paper base designs i decided that they should all be 6 boxes by 3 boxes.
No matter the shape or style each letter has to fit by the 6 by 3 square guide. This in fact proved to be difficult, I had to work with the size to create clear and understandable letters.
In everything you designed it may take time to redesign until your happy with it. After I designed my upper case letters, I had one small complication which was the spacing between them was to wide.

I need to find a way to bring the letters closer together but at the same time make it clear, I found a tool button called advance when i clicked on advance I had to click on spacing. This button allowed me to change the space between each letter, i kept changing it until i was happy with it.
I down loaded the image so i would be abled to use it on Microsoft word, just like a real type face

I continued by actually writing simple paragraph, i found then that my type face Bagwell isn't very clear and hard to understand as a whole

FINAL PIECE, TYPOGRAPHY- BAGWELL

This is the final piece, i only had enough time to design the upper case letters. I will continue with the design by creating the lower case letters and then continue on by designing numbers. the only problem i have with this type face is that because the lettering has a small space to be designed in it might not be clear what letter it is, but once you take a second look you understand what letter it's suppose to represent, however once all the letters are put together they may look unclear and messy.
